Independent WA GATE and ASET preparation

About Selective Path

We help WA families prepare for the ASET with original practice questions, timed mock exams and clear explanations. Our aim is to help children approach unfamiliar questions with understanding, and give parents a clearer sense of what to practise next.

Guided by the published ASET materials

The WA Department of Education's published sample tests and handbook guide our approach. We use them as reference points for the test structure, question styles and reasoning skills our practice is designed to develop.

We aim to reflect these as closely as the published materials allow, while creating original questions rather than copies of the samples. You can explore the official ASET samples and handbook.

Selective Path is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the WA Department of Education. Our practice material is not official ASET material.

Practise working under exam-style time limits

Our timed mock exams follow the published ASET time limits for standard testing. Children can practise pacing themselves, deciding when to move on from a difficult question, and maintaining focus across all four test areas.

How we prepare and review material

A useful practice paper needs more than the right answer. We focus on clear wording, sound reasoning, readable diagrams and explanations that help a child learn from a mistake.

  1. 01 · Create

    Develop original practice

New scenarios and a range of reasoning tasks help students practise applying an idea, rather than memorising a familiar question.

  2. 02 · Check

    Check answers and explanations

Our review covers answer keys, reasoning, wording and diagrams. We also check for missing material, repeated questions and the variety of tasks across a paper.

  3. 03 · Decide

    Release a reviewed paper

We keep a record of the checks for each paper. Draft papers stay in our review area until they are approved for students to use.

Feedback for the next step

Our reports show how your child did in each section, with explanations and practical suggestions for what to work on next. The aim is to make the review useful, not just give a score.

AI assists with some content drafting and provides writing practice feedback. Its writing marks are estimates, not a human assessment or official ASET scores.

Understanding practice results

Scores describe performance on the paper attempted. They do not predict an official TSS, rank your child against other candidates or estimate their chance of admission. The published samples guide our work, but we cannot guarantee an exact match to the live test's difficulty. Read more in our guide to practice scores and official TSS.

Questions, corrections and feedback

If you find a factual error, ambiguous question, answer-key concern, broken diagram or accessibility issue, please tell us. Include the page or paper and question number if you can. We review reports and correct or withdraw material when a problem is confirmed. You do not need to include a child's personal information to report a content issue.
